Wineries in Tuscany are a great source of pride for the region and make up part of an industry which is in continuous growth and development. Encompassing a large part of the region, wineries stretch from the north of Tuscany all the way to the Argentario coast.

In recent years many of Tuscany’s previously unknown wines have become popular and famous on the international stage. Boasting a great deal of awards, these wines are quickly becoming some of the best appreciated products in the region.

Various Tuscan wines today sport the coveted DOCG label, a label which means Wines of Domination of Controlled Origin and Guaranteed and ensures the product is produced in specific well-defined regions and passes stringent quality tasting before being sold. Wines in the region with this label include the Morellino di Scansano, produced in the territory of Maremma; the Brunello di Montalcino, from the province of Siena; Chianti, produced all across the region and divided into Chianti Classico, Chianti Colli Senesi, Chianti Colline Pisane, Chianti Superiore and Chianti Colli Aretini; Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, produced in the province of Siena; and la Vernaccia di San Gimignano, from the same province.

Other Tuscan wines which do not have DOCG but are of the same high quality are the DOC and IGT wines: Ansonica Costa dell’Argentario, Rosso di Montepulciano, Parrina, Rosso di Montalcino, Rosso di Sovana, Bianco di Pitigliano, Montecucco, Terratico di Bibbona, Alta Valle della Greve and IGT Maremma Toscana.
