mugello

Mugello is the Tuscan territory which links the north and east of the region. To the west of Florence, Mugello includes Mount Giovi, Mount Senario delle Croci di Calenzano and the Croci Summit and divides the Arno Valley and Florence. The principal part of this valley is the area which stretches to the Sieve River, an area which runs to the south of the Apennines and is characterised by the Giogo Pass, Colla di Casaglia Pass, the Muraglione Pass and the Futa Pass.

A mostly hilly and mountainous terrain, Mugello also has some flat-lands and the Sieve River valley. An important part of this territory is Bilancino Lake. An artificial lake created to regulate the inflow of water from the Sieve River, it is an extremely popular attraction with locals and tourists alike.

Mugello is not famous just for its lovely lake, but also for its many quaint and picturesque towns including Borgo San Lorenzo, San Pietro a Sieve, Fiorenzuola, Marradi, Barberino del Mugello and Dicomano. It is also home to one of Italy’s most famous Formula One test race tracks.
